Emily Crabtree was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma in 1982. The third of seven children, Emily was home schooled throughout grade school and began studying art at Edison College in 1998. After being awarded third place in a group show “Celebration of Performing Arts” at the Rauschenberg Gallery in Ft. Myers, Florida, Emily decided to pursue a life as an artist. Emily was accepted in the Ringling College of Art and Design in 2001. After completing the Ringling core program she moved to Portland Oregon and became involved the independent art scene of the city.
After her son was born in July of 2005, Emily moved to Asheville NC. Beginning undergraduate studies at the University of North Carolina Asheville in the fall 2006. Emily received her Bachelor of Fines Arts Degree at UNCA in the fall of 2009. She has exhibited her work in numerous group shows and was awarded the Cogburn Scholarship by the Art Department faculty in 2008. And in the fall of 2009 the she received an UNCA Undergraduate Research Grant for the creation of the piece “Fibers of Recollection”, a site-specific installation made from 24 yards of hand cut paper. On November 6th, 2009 Emily presented her first solo show at the S. Tucker Cooke Gallery, UNC Asheville. The vibrant show represented a culmination of her undergraduate work.
