Last Band Standing: Road to Bele Chere '11
Official Contest Procedure and Rules

Voting Round:

1. Since this is a contest for emerging artists, no band or musician that has previously played Bele Chere is eligible. The contest is open to bands or musicians with at least one performing member who resides in one of the following Western North Carolina counties: Allegheny, Ashe, Avery, Buncombe, Burke, Caldwell, Catawba, Cherokee, Clay, Haywood, Henderson, Graham, Macon, Madison, McDowell, Mitchell, Jackson, Polk, Rutherford, Swain, Transylvania, Yancey, Watauga and Wilkes.

2. Band submissions will be accepted online May 2 through 5:00 p.m. May 13. There is no fee to apply. Entries consist of a digital photo of the band or musician and an mp3 file of one complete original composition (no covers). Explicit lyrics are prohibited and incomplete entries will be disqualified.

3. Online voting will run May 31 through 3:00 p.m. June 10. A second round of voting between the finalists will run June 13 through 11:59 p.m. June 24.

4. The acts with the most online votes from the first round of voting will perform a battle of the bands-style concert at the Orange Peel on June 30. All bands or musicians selected to play the concert are required to send one member to a meeting at the venue before the event.

5. By submitting an application to compete, you agree to perform at the Orange Peel on June 30, should your band be chosen and at the designated time and stage at Bele Chere, should you win the contest.

6. Bands and musicians will be notified of the results of the first round of voting by June 10, 2011.

7. WNC magazine, the City of Asheville, and Bele Chere reserve the right to use winners’ names, voices and/or likenesses in any live and/or recorded promotional announcements, regarding any contests or giveaways.

8. All decisions are final and non-negotiable.

9. These rules may be amended at any time without notice.

Performance Round:

1. Any band selected to perform at the show will be required to submit a copy of any and all marketing/promotional materials to WNC magazine, the City of Asheville, and Bele Chere before it goes out to the public. All promotional material must promote the actual event as well as your band’s info/set time.

2. Instructions and requirements from the Orange Peel will be supplied upon your notification of advancement to performance round.

3. Each band will play up to 25 minutes.

4. The final winner will be determined by the crowd and announced at the event after all bands have performed. The results of the second round of voting will be factored into the performance results.

5. WNC magazine, the City of Asheville, Bele Chere Board of Directors, the Orange Peel, and other event sponsors are not responsible for any damaged, lost or stolen equipment.

6. WNC magazine, the City of Asheville, and Bele Chere reserve the right to use winners’ names, voices and/or likenesses in any live and/or recorded promotional announcements, regarding any contests or giveaways.

7. All decisions are final and non-negotiable.

8. All prizes are non-transferable.

9. The winner of the contest will receive the opening performance slot at Bele Chere July 29. Stage location and set time to be determined along with other prizes including: studio time at Echo Mountain Records, a photo session with a professional photographer, gift certificates from local merchants and Bele Chere merchandise.
