The Bear 5 Mile Run

The Bear is a challenging five-mile race to the top of Grandfather Mountain and part of the opening of the annual Highland Games. Beginning at the intersection of N.C. 105 and U.S. 221 in Linville, this rigorous route winds up steep climbs past McRae Meadows to the top of Grandfather. Runners will be greeted by breathtaking views and hundreds of onlookers as they cross the finish line at over 5,000 feet in elevation. Proceeds from registration fees benefit the High Country Conservancy, Relay for Life, and the Appalachian State University track team, in addition to various local charities.
