“The Art of Architects”

Date:
September 1, 2010 (All day)

Architects earn their reputations for the buildings they design, while their other artistic endeavors remain less public. Yet art and architecture are inextricable. This month at Pack Place, visitors can see this intrinsic link between art and the structures that surround us. “The Art of Architects” exhibit, which was developed by the Asheville chapter of the American Institute of Architects, features fine artworks from 20 local architects. Peter Alberice, artist, AIA member, and chairman of the show explains, “The interesting thing about being an artist and an architect is that one informs the other. Many architects work in a variety of media.” The exhibit’s diversity of form illustrates that point. While you can expect to find some structural renderings, the unexpected adds another dimension. Featured works include modern furniture, weaving, sculpture, photography, and paintings. It’s a different perspective on the creators of our built environment.
