Christian Harmony Shape-note Singing

Rural 19th-century Southern congregations with little money for instruments popularized this form of group singing, which uses shapes assigned to four or seven-note scales in rhythmic arrangements. The John C. Campbell Folk School draws more than 70 singers from four states each year.
